E37: From Complaints to Contentment: A Guide to Inner Peace

Michael Singer: Jai Masters, if you send your child to Disney World and they don’t have a good time, they get depressed, they get upset, they come back neurotic. That’s what psychiatrists are, psychologists, therapists. That’s not what’s supposed to happen in Disney World. It’s a very fun place and if the child goes there and all they do when they come back is complain about the lines, complain about the food, complain about the temperature, who rode with them in the ride and noise and this and that, well there’s something drastically wrong. Okay? The analogy between that and you being sent down to Earth is way closer than you want to think. So if you come down to the planet Earth and you’re having trouble and you’re having a good time, I’m telling you it’s the same as sending your kid to Disney World and have ’em come back depressed.
Why would their child do such a thing? What’s wrong? Well, the answer’s mine. The outside is beautiful. Life is beautiful. The planet’s amazing. There’s water, there’s birds, there’s fish, there’s animals, there’s people, there’s computers, there’s nature. I mean, my God, how many things are there to do here? Go to Mars. There’s nothing to do, nothing. Just go sit there and go to Jupiter and go to anywheres and we have not found any sign of life anywheres. I don’t mean human life or alien life. I mean a protozoa, an amoeba, nothing anywheres, and we’ve got the hubble’s out there. We’ve got the James Webb and they see really far in our scientists analyze things and they drop robots to go probe and holy mackerel, and can you say that anyone that hold a candle to earth, it’s hilarious to even think about this is a happening place.
You won the lottery. It’s way beyond the lottery. How can you even measure it? So why are you not having a good time? What I mean by a good time? I told you what I mean by a good time. Their mind will sit there and say, how can I have a good time? My husband left. How can I have a good time? There’s wars. How can I have a good time? Look at the running environment. How can I have a good time? Look what the do. Look what everybody’s doing. Oh good. That’s like going to Disney World. This person rode with me on the ride. I didn’t want to be with her. I didn’t even know them. Look what they’ve served for food, Italian food or Vietnamese food. I just wanted American food. It’s the same thing except that your mind laughs if I talk about those things, but it doesn’t laugh.
I talk about all the other things I talked about a moment ago. Well, it’s reasonable that I have a good time of all that’s going on. No, it’s not. Doesn’t mean you can’t work to make the painting more beautiful. You’re here to raise the plane. You’re here to do work and contribute to what? To make it beautiful. But you’re not here to complain. You’re not here to complain and find every single thing wrong that you possibly can. You can go to Disney World to do that. You can complain about the heat, you complain about the lines. You can complain about this, complain about that. You can do whatever you want, but why would you want to do such a thing? So why would you want to come down to the most amazing planet that I cannot talk about? How do you talk about it? Every inch of the planet is fascinating and so basically you start questioning, why am I having trouble here?
And your mind will tell you so fast. We’ll make a list that doesn’t stop of why you’re having trouble here and it’ll include what Johnny did in fifth grade to you and the girls and guys that you dated, that dumped you or that went off with somebody else or a person who said something to you that wasn’t really very nice, wouldn’t it? You can think of every single thing and your mind will tell it to you. These are terrible things that happened to me. How can I possibly be happy here? Because there’s a here you’re just God spoiled, okay? Instead of appreciating honor, respecting the fact that there is color, there is shape. I dunno how to talk about it. Somehow you got lost somewhere thinking it’s important and appropriate to complain. We know we don’t really complainers. What do you do if your kid complains all the time you have a person at work complains all the time.
You don’t like that. You check out what you do, you check it out and you’re going to find out that’s all you do. All you do is complain about how it is. The trouble is you think it’s justified. Why should I not complain? Now not complain. It doesn’t mean you don’t work with it, okay? If you’re learning to play tennis or learning to play an instrument, you got to make mistakes. That’s how you learn. That’s what you do. You make it better. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it doesn’t mean you complain. Oh my God, I made a mistake. I don’t ever want to play anymore and look at that. She’s better than me. Why should I even try? At some point you step back and say, what’s going on? Why am I having such a trouble here? I’ve talked to you about this planet.
You just listen to me. Some of you do. They write me, I get very proud of them. They say, oh, I was having a terrible time of my life until I started listening. This planet is so meaningless and so tiny. I told you 1.3 billion earths fit inside the sun and the sun is one of 300 billion stars in one galaxy and there’s 2 trillion galaxies. If the earth exploded and blew up into total s smithing pieces, a couple of planets would change orbit and nothing else in the whole universe would’ve any idea that you even existed. That’s the whole earth, not you, because lemme tell you something. You’re coming and going. The earth doesn’t have to explode for you to go away. You’re going away. So you have this limited time on the most beautiful planet that’s ever existed. How can you think it’s justifiable to complain?
What a silly thing to do with your time. If you have a limited time at Disney World, I’ll drop you off for a few hours. Don’t do that with it. And if you do do that with it, there’s something wrong with your mind because your mind did that, didn’t it? Who’s complaining? Your mind Now we talk about it all the time. Why is it complaining? Because it’s not getting what it wants. Things are not the way it wants. That’s what you complain about. There’s nothing else you complain about. Do you understand that? You complain because things are not the way you want. They may be the way somebody else wants. There are people who love war. They sign back up and there are people that play chess and sit there for hours and hours making a move. You could be so bored. Oh my God, who cares?
You hear me? We’re just all different. We’re different. The problem is, if it’s not the way you want, you complain. Well guess what? You’re going to complain a lot because it’s not going to be the way you want. I’ve tried to get through to you over and over and over again. Well, why can’t it be the way I want? Well, to start with, there’s not a single person in this room that wants it the way you want it. Everybody’s different. We just said that. So if you get the way you want, we’re all in big trouble. We’re sad, we’re complaining. She goes, she wanted. So you wake up and you realize there’s one world out here. It’s unfolding based on what? Based on the laws of creation, the laws of nature, the laws of physical laws of chemistry, laws of psychology, even psychology. People are the way they are.
We talk about this all the time because of the experiences they had has programmed their psyche and now you’re interacting with them. That’s the science. Psychology is science, okay? Not exact science, right, the physical science, but it’s the science. So things are the way they are outside because of the forces that made it be that way. It’s science. A person is talking to you and behaving the way they do because of the patterns that happen to them throughout their life, including what they ate for dinner last night, including the phone call they just got, including the thought that they had. There’s a whole bunch of things that determine how somebody behaves. You are a very minor part of that. I know we think high of ourselves. You’re not the creator of the other person. And so basically you’re interacting with the laws of nature, the laws of science.
It rains when it rains, it snows when it snows hot. When it’s hot. It’s cold. When it’s cold. There’s mountains where there are mountains and the people are the way they are. So they’re not going to be the way you want. Is that okay with you? Of course the answer is of course not. You’re going to complain that it’s not the way you want. So spirituality in its very basic forum is science and say, come on, get with the program. If you’re going to complain about every single thing that happens that isn’t the way you want, you’re going to complain. There’s nothing you can do about it. You cannot make everything be the way you want. And this whole thing about attracting to yourself to get what you want, is it just very funny? It’s true. You can do that. But if there are a certain number of atoms making up the world and you managed to manipulate through your deep psychic powers that way, those atoms behave.
Somebody else didn’t get what they wanted. A wise person catches arm and says, it is not about getting what I want. That is so limited. It rarely happens to work day and night to make it happen. It is about checking out why I can’t honor and respect and appreciate the way it is. You start off with honoring and respecting reality. Doesn’t mean you don’t do anything about it to misunderstand my teachings. It doesn’t mean you just sit there and let it all run over you. No, of course not. That’s not what’s being taught. It’s being taught. You start by accepting why, because it’s reality. If you want to fly airplanes, right? Brothers, if things want to learn how to fly, they better understand gravity. You cannot ignore gravity and fly. You have to understand the forces that are keeping it from happening. Then you have every right in the world to come and interact with it and try to create something that flies.
There’s nothing wrong with that, but you better start with acceptance. Your ground starting point is understanding the laws of creation, the laws of nature, including the laws of psychology. I’ve been over this all. I’m going to do it again tonight. I do it all the time. Psychology says that you men and women are the son of the learned experiences your program by what’s happened to you. That’s just a truth. That doesn’t mean you’re that you’re the consciousness, but your psyche, the way you think, the you feel is programmed based on the experiences that you had. Everybody’s had different experiences. Therefore everybody’s different. So for you to expect that people are going to be the way you want them to be, that’s a joke. You’re not a chance in the world that people are going to be the way you want them to be because they didn’t know how the same experience as you.
Therefore what’s going on inside of them is different and there’s nothing wrong with that and it’s going to be that way. Now, higher beings transcended their ego. They transcended the psyche. They have one, but they don’t have to listen to it. They’re able to let go of it. If it sits there and says, I don’t like this, it just lets it go. Okay, if somebody says something, irritates them, they let it go. Who cares? Of course, of course they don’t match. Okay, so it’s fine, no big deal. Now that person you can trust, that person will interact from a deeper place than the sum of their learning experiences. But it’s not that they don’t have some of their learning experiences, that’s natural. You’ve had experiences, they program you differently. The question is, are you addicted to them? Are you listening to them? Do they run your life, their past experiences?
And that’s what everybody does, isn’t it? Everybody all over the world, everybody except for very high beings, very evolved. So it means to be evolved. You evolve beyond some of your Lord experiences. Sometimes people ask me, Darwin, talk about evolution. That’s physical evolution. That’s evolution of the body. Okay? What about the evolution of the thing inside there? How you doing in there? That evolves also how? By being able to transcend the summary learned experiences. You have them, you see them, they talk to you, you feel them, but you are the consciousness that’s experiencing them. The more you are able to let go step back and be who you are, the center of awareness that is aware that this down there is of someone has learned experiences and you know better than letting it run your life. Why you’ve seen one seen ’em all just big deal.
That which bothers you. Don’t bother me, that bother me bothers you a lot. Wake up. How can it be otherwise, if the psyche is the sum of your learned experiences and everybody’s had different experiences, how can it not be like that? You’re not going to make it not be like that. So if we’re going to be with John Lennon and imagine all the people living life in peace, it’s only to say transcended the part of them. That is some of the learned experiences. What does that mean to transcend the part of you? That’s some of your learned experiences. Well, every single one of you, no way you would’ve made it into this room if you did not transcend your animal nature. Do you have one? Yes you do. Yes you do. You got all kinds of drives. You got all kinds of things that’s like the animals do.
There’s things in animal, but you have risen above it. You have the ability to work with it and not let it go out and claw people to death hopefully and do all kinds of things. And so some of us are that way more evolved than others in different survival or procreation drives sex drives and so on, so can handle things better. But they’re there and society has had to learn to handle those things in order to be a society. Otherwise, you’re kind of on your own. So you in there have evolved past being attached completely to your body. You have one, you have to deal with it. You deal it in a balanced way. What does that mean? That’s your business. It’s not my business to tell you what to do, but it’s your business to understand that if you get down there caveman level, you’re not going to fit in society too well.
But if you sit there and play straight, stuck in the mud kind of thing and suppress all of your natural drives and functions and all this kind of stuff, you’ll be a mess inside. So you don’t have to learn a balance. That’s freud’s Id, the balancing ego and super ego. It’s pretty smart guy. Freud, okay? The problem is Freud talk about suppression. You talk about control. He don’t talk about who’s doing it. You can’t sit there and say the ego’s doing it. Something built the ego. You held the ego together. The consciousness is what is running everything in there, but it gets lost in the psyche. So evolution inside means the ability to transcend, just like the evolution outside was the ability to transcend the lower drives, the lower aspects of animal nature. Fine. Now, inside, can you transcend the fact that your psyche is a cellular learn experience?
I’ve always used that example. Your psyche is the semi learn experiences. I want to know, do you understand that? Do you accept that? Do you honor that every single thing you like, that you dislike? What you complain about is because the past experience you had, you hang out with people in a certain way. That’s an experience you’re having. I guarantee you. Message lay down with dogs. You got to for flees, you’re influenced by the impressions that are made on you, which are made naturally. You don’t have to study them. They come in all day and they’re having an impression on you. I gave examples to you a thousand times. You’re very happy with somebody. You love them, you just met them. Okay? That’s an experience they told you that they lived near where you used to live. Oh, that’s a good thing. That means they’re really nice.
Alright? And so just little connections take place that tie in to your past experiences. You follow me? So it causes you to be open, doesn’t it? They look a little bit like your sister and you loved your sister. You haven’t seen her for a long time. That person’s got you just because they look like your sister. They’re not your sister. So eventually you go there and you feel things. The summary of your learning experiences caused you to be attracted to this person, repulsed by the person, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. That’s what’s going to happen. Then all of a sudden somebody comes up to you and tells you something about them that doesn’t fit what you thought was going on. 20 seconds they talk to you. I guarantee you, next time you see your little friend, you do not feel the same as you did before they said those words to you.
Now your mind says, well, of course not. That’s the sum of your learned experiences. You’re so lost in it. You don’t understand what it’s telling you. Is it not true that your feelings would change and your thoughts would change? Is that not the sum learned experiences? You had one more experience and it went in there and changed the summary learned experiences and then a person came to said, oh, I was just kidding. I say, but first come on April, food joke. All of a sudden now you’re open again. Some of your learned experiences wake up to how real that is. There’s no way I can stress that enough. That’s what’s going on in there. You think it’s you, it is not. You are the one who notices it. It is the sum of your learned experiences. Can you evolve past that? Not do you not have it not can you beat it up?
Not can you suppress it and make the mind not talk and be totally silent by fighting and disciplining? No, no, you can do that. It’s wonderful. No seriously, you can do all kinds of things. No, listen to me. Just learn, but don’t listen at that level. I’m not telling you how to live your life ever, but I would like to help you learn what’s really going on. So if you sit there and say, the whole purpose of this is to stop my mind from talking, that’s not true. The purpose of this is to evolve beyond the fact that your mind is talking and when you evolve beyond it, it will stop talking. That’s a natural state. When you no longer are having problems with the world, it will stop complaining about the world. As long as you’re having problems with the world, it will complain about it and then try to figure out what to do about it and try to figure out how to get it done.
It’ll be very busy with mind. So it’s not about destroying mine or suppressing mine or stopping mine. It’s about understanding why it is so noisy, why it complains so much. I’m not judging you for complaining, but to understand how much you complain, but dare you to watch. The trouble is that we think it’s justified. If we’re complaining is justified. I’m not complaining. It’s hot, it’s hot, it’s so hot, I can’t handle it. What do you mean it’s hot? It’s 98 degrees. Of course I’m hot. There you go. Right? It just justifies itself. It creates a little world for itself in there and it makes the complaining seem natural. I’m not complaining, it’s hot. How about complaining? You should see what she said to me. See, it’s justified. No, it’s complaining. However, if I call that complaining, anytime it’s complaining, it’s complaining. Don’t rationalize it away.
And you’ll see complaints a lot and I told you why complaints because it doesn’t match what you want. Complaints that it doesn’t match what you want. Transcending, evolving internally doesn’t mean you shut it up. You stop it, you beat it up. No, it means you’re able to step back and be the consciousness that is aware that the complaining is taking place. Nowadays you call it mindfulness, witness consciousness, objective observation. You just rest back. I’m going to talk more about that because people really misunderstand what it’s consciousness. You just step back and be the awareness that is aware of what it’s seeing and what it’s going to see is you’re going to freak you out how much you complain, I’m serious, unless you’re like stunned when you actually look, you don’t realize how much you’re complaining. You complain all the time driving in front of you the temperature drop something in your pants, you gained the pound, you get this.
Somebody said something, your thought, somebody might’ve said something, they looked at you a little weird. I don’t want them worth tell, right? Constant complaining. And so you wake up and you watch it and how do you deal with that? You be the one who’s watching instead of being what you’re watching, you be the one who notices that that is going on in there instead of being what’s going on in there. If I sit a look at a picture, I may have trouble with a picture. It don’t like it, it’s not me. It’s something I’m looking at. I’m the one who’s looking. If while I’m looking at the picture, thoughts start coming up and feelings start coming up of attraction or repulsion or whatever, I’m not the thoughts. I’m watching the thoughts just like I’m watching the picture. I am the consciousness that is aware of what’s going on.
That’s where you evolve, that’s evolution. You transcend, you evolve behind beyond the psyche, fight with the psyche. Eventually. At first you have to fight with the thing to get to your center a little bit. But in the end you do not fight. You never fight with anything. Doesn’t mean you don’t work with it, but you don’t fight with it. Fighting with it means I can’t honor it or respect it or appreciate it so they don’t have to fight with it, okay? You don’t get any worse fighting. The best you can do is suppress and you cause all kinds of trouble in there. When you can rest in the face of whatever’s going on in there and just notice, okay, you don’t say it when I say that. It’s not like you’re saying, okay, no, you’re not saying anything. You’re just aware. I did an experiment with you all the other day. You want to see what this consciousness, you want to see what it means to just see Buddhist talk about just seeing, just being aware right now without moving, without doing anything, tell me how difficult it’s for you to see what’s in front of you.
Don’t think about it, don’t analyze it. Just tell me how difficult it was. How hard wasn’t it? Boy, you better build some muscles. It’s just what is you see that’s just seeing, why can’t you do that inside your consciousness? Just saw what’s there, didn’t it? You are aware of what’s there, the easiest pie, why can’t you be aware of what’s going on inside? Because you are perfectly capable of it. That is what it means to evolve. It’s what it means to transcend the personal self. It is not that you beat it up, you didn’t make it go away. Now the truth is as you step back it gets quieter naturally. Why? For the same reason that if you’re sitting there looking at a lake and it’s crystal still mirrors sharp and all of a sudden a leaf drops in a lake, it starts making ripples.
You don’t like ripples, so you jump in and try to get rid of them. I think there’ll be a few more ripples. What’s going on inside? That’s why you can’t get your mind quiet instead of honoring that. There’ll be times when the mind is doing what it’s doing. People have a bad hair day, right? You have a bad mind day. So what? You have a bad heart day. So what? Okay, you’re able to handle it. You have rested back into something deeper and you notice what’s going here. I told you, look, notice what’s going on. Okay? What if a rattlesnake comes across while you’re looking? You can’t stay there. You’ll not stand a chance. It’ll not be the same as before that rattlesnake showed up. That would be wow, okay. Not easy to see that because you have fears and problems and issues. Okay? So basically the same thing inside.
You can’t just see you, I’m not picking on you, but in most cases, like all for most people, all people, you can’t just be there seeing the psyche, it’s talking, you know, think things, you know, feel things. Notice, you feel things, you hear things. That’s a subject, a verb and an object. We’ll go back to fifth grade. We’ll start diagramming your sentences. Is that not true? Who’s the you? What’s the verb? The verb is seeing, feeling, hearing, touching an object. The object’s not you. For you, you have to use the verb to be. You are the self. That’s the only true you are that exists. You are the consciousness that is seeing and experiencing. Why can’t you just see inside? Eventually you will be able to, if you grow spiritually and you evolve, it will be as easy and effortless as seeing outside. You just see inside.
Why? Because you’re willing to, you’re not outside. Like I said, if a snake comes across, you’re not willing to see the snake. There’s all kinds of reactivity inside. Almost all the thoughts you’re having are there because the sum learned experiences. Therefore none of ’em are neutral to you. Your mind is creating the most powerful things. You, oh my God, what if that happens? I remember what happened before. Wouldn’t that be great? It is creating powerful thoughts and feelings because it made its thoughts and feelings out of your past experiences, not all your past experiences. How often have you been in there thinking about the white lines you drove past last week? Never. How often have you gone there and thought about somebody said to you last week, okay, so you stored this stuff and that’s us coming back up. So you have trouble just seeing it because it’s causing you to be reactive.
That’s why I teach you don’t fight with your thoughts. Understand where they come from. Buddhists say work at the root, but you can’t work at the root if you can’t handle the surface. If you’re going to react immediately to the surface, you’ll never see the root. That’s what makes a great spiritual person, master yogi, whatever be what they are, they’re able to see inside. How did they read about it? No, it has nothing to do with knowledge or wisdom, any of that kind of stuff. It has to do with just not reacting. If you react like jump in the lake, it’s just going to be more mess. And we do react to everything our mind and emotions do. You can’t handle what somebody said. You’re close with them at breakfast. You had a nice and you felt love. Then they came home for lunch or dinner and they weren’t in the same space.
It wasn’t in the same mood and it hurts you and you can’t handle that. Alright? It lasted inside of you. There’s a different feeling. You reacted to the fact that it wasn’t what you wanted. As long as you’re doing that, you’ll not be able to sit in the seat of consciousness. Why? Because you’re being pulled down into your reaction. So it’s not about fighting with your mind, it’s not about stopping your mind. It’s not about learning to have your heart never get problems and keeping everybody the way you want. Having a really, really nice relationship. It’s not about that the beginning because you can’t handle anything else. Alright, fine, fine, by all means go for it. But at some point you’ll find yourself because you got clear enough and strong enough and centered enough to where things can go on in there and they don’t pull you into them, they don’t not go on, they just don’t pull you into ’em.
So let’s say there’s a thought. I wonder what she meant by that. That’s the end of that thought. Why would I explore that? I couldn’t care less to say I couldn’t care less. You couldn’t care less. You’re a mature being. You understand that people have moods. You understand that People say things if you understand that you misinterpret things. Have you ever misinterpreted what somebody meant? Have you ever misinterpreted what somebody meant? You don’t know what you have no idea what the answer to that is because you didn’t ask them. You assumed you were right. Wait till you find out how wrong you are. You can’t possibly understand another person. You only see your reaction to them and your reaction is based on some of your learned experiences, their behaviors based on there’s some of their learned experiences. I’ve literally, people tell me different times when you were growing up, I know what you meant by that.
I grew up with a mother was like you, no first of a male and say, well I don’t know your mother and you have no idea what I meant, but it hit your mother in there the way your mother meant when she looked like that or she talked like that or she smirked a little bit or she turned sideways or they held their arms over the third chakra. They’re not open body language, right? Give me a break first, your body language is programmed just like anything else. Your father sat a certain way, your mother sat a certain way, somebody in school yelled at you for sitting that way. It’s not that everybody’s single has the same thing. And second of all, I don’t care about what the body language is. I care about why are you trying to read it? What do you care about their body language?
Because you’re sensitive. Because you want to make sure you don’t get hurt. You want to make sure you get this information and well, I also would you sit there stare at somebody and see how they’re sitting or whether they’re smiling anybody. I’m not dissing it, I’m just explaining to you. I want you to go deeper. Go deeper. So evolving inside means the ability to stay clear and centered and non-reactive by what you see in there and what you see in there is going to be effective. What’s going out here until you’re very clear that it won’t then things will just come in and pass through and there won’t be all that reactivity going on inside. So the key to spiritual growth, deep spiritual growth, and we talk about the ability to understand that you have come down into a beautiful place for a few years and you are supposed to be having a good time and a good time doesn’t mean partying.
A good time means you are in a state of ecstasy inside yourself at all times. There’s this beautiful energy way beyond your thoughts of what is high and beautiful. So what’s going on inside of you is way higher than anything that can ever go on outside of you, from outside of you. I’m talking even the most intimate moment you ever had is way higher than that. Way higher than that going on all the time. Now if you want to have trouble, go ahead instead of that, that happens to be your natural state. You’re very high being, but the problem is, I told you last time, the only time you feel high is when you’re getting what you want. And so now you’re out there reacting and it’s so complicated. It’s so ridiculous. So I just taught you so many people write me sentence, what does it mean to evolve spiritually?
That’s thought God was perfect already. Why does he need to evolve? Because the one ray of consciousness fell from the garden. That’s exactly what it means. How’d you fall from the garden? You got attached to staring at your thoughts instead of just seeing them, you’re addicted to them, you’re attached to them. You identify with them, you got to attach to your emotions. Is there anything wrong with emotions? Of course not. There’s nothing wrong with emotions. There’s nothing wrong with white lines. Is nothing wrong with men, women, clouds, rain. There’s all kinds of things including emotions. The world is so interesting. So net result is consciousness is independent of what it’s watching. When you look at something, it’s not you, it’s what you’re looking at. Yes, fine, you have a car, it’s not you existed before the car and then basically it’s just something you see.
It’s something you’re aware of. It’s not you. It can never be you. Your wife is not you, your husband is not you. Your children are not you. You’re in here looking at them and you existed before they came and you exist when they go away to college. No, it hurt me. Well, that’s your problem. Your problem is that you can’t handle what’s going on. Just they can’t handle the snake that crawled across the room. So you’re so reactive to what goes on in your emotions and in your thoughts that you get pulled down into them, distracted by them so much that you identify with them. You say, I am this thought, I am this person. I like this, I like that. I don’t like this. And next thing you know you’re behaving that way. Evolution is when you’re able to sit in there and notice what’s going on.
What was the main point I keep making? It’s not about having it not go on. If you sit and fight with it because is going on, the best you can do is suppress it. There’s a reason it’s going on. There’s nothing in this world that goes on without a reason. It’s a world of cause and effect including inside of you. So it’s happening inside of you because of the Lea experiences. And then what you did is exacerbate the situation by jumping in and making more ripples and trying to stop it from being the way it is by making somebody else be a certain way. I can’t even talk about it. So complicated. Next thing, you’re out there trying to manipulate the world to make it be so that when it comes in it doesn’t bother you. That is so amazing. The very fact that you’re manipulating it means it’s coming back.
Take a ball that’s floating on water and push it down. You better be there a long time. It’s coming back up. Take the Hoover Dam, where is that built? So a long time ago you decided to stop the Colorado River. Well miles little tough. Alright, guess what? You better keep doing it because that river’s trying to go through that dam every single second. It will never stop. It has never stopped. If you fight the forces, the natural forces of nature, the best you can do is get a headache and get tired. Doesn’t mean you don’t. Nothing wrong with the dam. I don’t understand the reality of what’s going on. If you fight what’s going on inside of you, the best you can do is suppress it. Push it away. Why? Because there’s a reason it’s happening. There’s a reason. Everything has a reason. There’s a reason your mind says what it says.
It may say terrible things, fine, there’s a reason it’s terrible things. It may say really, really nice things, but underneath it’s terrible. There’s a reason for all of this isn’t there? It’s a summary learned experiences. So if you fight it, the best you can do is make it look good, but it’s not really good. You didn’t deal with why it is the way it is. Deep spirituality deals with let me handle it enough to see what’s really going on and let me deal with that. I go into that very deeply and living untethered, it’s like why is it the way it is? Because you suppressed stuff throughout your life. If things were not comfortable to you, you pushed them away. You didn’t want it to happen. You didn’t want to see ’em, you pushed them away. Well guess what? They didn’t go anywhere that was pushing a ball down.
They stayed inside of you and they’re going to keep trying to come back up just like that. Colorado Rivers, you keep trying to go through that dam or that ball’s going to keep trying to come back up. So you see it in your dreams. You can moods. People ask me about drives and stuff like that. Your natural energy flow is up. It passes right through all the centers, all the chakras. You don’t have to know their names, you don’t have to do anything. It just comes up, elevates and gets more powerful as it goes higher and higher As it passes, each center is like stages of a rocket ship. The lower center is push it up to the next center, push it up to the next center until you can’t handle it. It has to go out or you push it down. But if it’s left to its own, which you’re not capable of doing right now, but you will feel this constant flow upward through all the centers feeding you who talked about that Christ man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that live with the mouth of God.
He’s talking about the Shakti flow. He’s talking about you don’t just live off what comes in from outside turning you on. There’s a flow of energy inside coming from the source that flows inside. So you’ll catch on eventually that you have screwed that flow up. How? By pushing things into it, by pushing the ball of your problems, things you didn’t like. You push them down and they’re blocking your Shakti flow that when I say don’t just fight with the result, deal with the cause, the cause of everything that’s going on in there other than the flow of God, the flow of Shakti flow of spirit color on is suppression, repression, suppression, resistance, non-acceptance, whatever you want. The fact that you are in there pushing energy down because you can’t handle it. That’s what causes the mess inside. And then you make more of a mess about the mess.
You stored something into the mom he did 50 years ago and now somebody says something to remind you of it. Now you don’t like that person. Maybe hit ’em, whatever it is. You just march out, well I’m going to deal with you. And then they get upset and then this happens. You just spread all your garbage come about pollution. There’s pollution other than environmental pollution. And we all pollute the world with our stuff by yelling at people, shoving into people complaining, everything. We just create total negativity. Why? Because we store negativity. I’ve asked you a thousand times if you store every single thing that ever bothered you inside of you, what’s it going to be like in there? Bothered. And then you got to go work on making it not be bothered. No, stop storing that stuff in there. That’s the core of the essence.
So he talked about what is evolution? Evolution is the ability, internal evolution, spiritual evolution, the ability to stay seated in consciousness. So when you look at what your mind and heart are doing, it’s just as easy as look at what the outside world’s doing. Not a problematic outside world, just a neutral outside world. Just here mind’s saying this. Mind saying that mine said something X-rated fine. So what the mind said, something I told you once back in the season when I was meditating a lot and doing all that kind of stuff. And as my guru, he taught devotion. I didn’t know anything about devotion. I didn’t know anything about God, but I tried to be a good disciple and do my thing. So I’ll always remember the moment I was up meditating and I got it from a meditation and I didn’t have a very deep meditation.
And I remember standing, I could just see you be there right now in the loft standing at that exact place. And my mind said, but I don’t even believe in God. I’m going to do about that, right? And something inside of me just said, here, God, here’s the part of me that doesn’t believe in you. That was it. Never ever said it again and never thought it again. See, you work with things. You don’t feel guilty. I don’t believe in God. I should believe in God, right? Just give it away and here fine. You might not believe in God good. I don’t care. It doesn’t matter to me right here, here’s the part of me that doesn’t believe in you. You see the depth of that. So who cares what that mind has to say? It’s just expressing the sum of his learned experiences. Remember that whatever’s going on in your mind, it’s the sum of your learned experiences and if your heart goes through different stuff, it’s harder, but you’ll learn to, you’ll learn to.
It is just the sum of its learned experiences. That’s what your emotions are. But aren’t you supposed to have emotions? You’re supposed to feel ecstasy. You want to call that an emotion. It’s not. Like I said, I went to this very deep and little untethered emotions are when the Shakti is trying to come up and it hits your blockages. Therefore it shoots out. Just like if you have a rock and a flow of water, it creates eddies and rapids. That’s what human emotions are. So you feel them in your heart because your blockage is stored there. It hits them, it shoots out. But people don’t understand that even psychiatry doesn’t understand that some of ’em do, right? And so they sit there and say, you should listen to your emotions. Well, they’re right. You should not suppress your emotions. The essence of psychology really is they have understood that suppression does not work.
And so they tell you, explore your emotions. Pay attention to them. If you have needs, try to satisfy them. It’s not yoga, but there’s nothing wrong with it because what you’re going to do is suppress them. It’s going to get worse. Do you understand that? That’s what psychology is. Psychology is the level of understanding that says don’t suppress because suppression causes big trouble. And then if you did suppress before and you’re in big trouble, we’ll try to find out what you suppressed and help you let it go. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s very beautiful, right? Yoga is at a higher level. Yoga is sitting there saying, why is it happening? It’s happening because you stored these blockages in there and the shakti trying to come up, hits them and shoots out like it does. You put rocks in rapidly flowing water. He’s going to get eddies and sprays and stuff like that.
You just give names to the imagine standing there watching the water hit a rock. Oh, there’s love, there’s hate, there’s jealousy, there’s insecurity, and just name each of the little shootouts that take place. Everybody watching it says, yeah, you’re right. I have that too. Okay? Therefore it must be real. But you don’t understand the root. The root is your blockages. How do the yogis know that? Because they release the blockages, not suppress them. If you can release the blockages and not put any more in, where do you find out what’s going to happen? That’s when you understand why the masters touch with it. They’re like benchmarks along the way, okay, you’re not there yet, but boy for catching on. They’ve been there. They’ve been way past where you are, right? And you’re going to find out that this energy flow, if it doesn’t hit the blockages, is really beautiful.
It’s everything Christ talked about. It’s everything. The great masters talked about yoga, they call it Shakti. The Shakti flow. It’s all Shakti. Even the stuff that shoots out is Shakti. It’s all water. Just because it hits the rock doesn’t stop being water does it? It’s just behaving expressing itself differently when it is not being blocked. It’s the most beautiful thing you could ever experience and it fulfills you. It’s the only thing that can fully fulfill you. You have no more fears, no more securities because the ego is all built around the Lea experiences. You’ve now transcended your learning experiences. Like I told you, it doesn’t mean they’re not there. Here I looked at you there. It did not affect me. It didn’t cause a problem just because it’s there. It’s not a problem way. Do you see when you’re able to sit there and the inside is what it is.
But I told you it will naturally change. You’re not fighting with it. There’s no reason for it to be reactive. And so it won’t be. It’ll get quiet by itself. You have to fight with it. It’s not will in the end. There’s no will in the end. There’s surrender in the end. You just are letting the natural flow. Here. I have to use a lot of will to keep the Colorado River behind the Hoover Dam. How much will do I need to use if I start taking the damn down to have the Colorado River flow Zero. It’s its natural way of being. That’s how much will in the end you have to use to achieve and attain your highest spiritual state. It will be natural. It’ll just flow up. It just flow up by itself and you’re just let go. We’ll pull you up. So this concept of complaining, this concept of not being comfortable and enjoying your life down here, you need to be honest with yourself and look at it.
When is consciousness? Can you sit there? I do this in Untethered Soul and I know it’s the favorite part. Why? The Untethered Soul? Very popular book. It’s hilarious. All over the world and published in 40 languages. Oh, millions of copies of soul. Why? I guarantee you, because those first chapters that talk about that voice inside your head and about putting it on a couch next to you and seeing how you’d feel about it talking to you, alright? In other words, it has the ability to wake you up, has the ability to make you once and for all realize you’re in there and that’s a fricking mess in there, isn’t it? Okay? And then you start growing with it and dealing with it. Your whole life changed people around me all the time. My whole life changed. Okay? Your life’s going to change if you stop being sucked down into your stuff and your life’s definitely going to change if you stop storing the stuff in there and it’s going to change even more if when the stuff you stored in there starts coming up by itself.
You’re committed to the pain that you have to go through to release the pain you stored. If you stored it with pain, it’s coming back with pain. Somebody wants to ask me, does it to be that way? Let’s see, yes, if it was blue, you put it down there, it’s going to be blue. You come back, it was green or coming back green, red coming back red. You stored pain, didn’t you? Stored the most painful experiences. You couldn’t handle them, you didn’t want to experience them. So you pushed them down. When they come back up and they will come back up, they have to come back up and pass through you to make it free to where they’re not in there. You’re in the way. You’re the one who pushed it away. You understand that? I’m not blaming you are little, this that past line, I don’t care.
Whatever it is, don’t judge. Don’t even look back. Just move forward And you sit there and say, I am willing to let this go. I don’t want this inside. I’m a paint inside of me. I don’t want to carry pain inside of me. They expect you to fix it. They married you. That’s a joke. You don’t want to put it down there. How can I get it out? Well, I thought you loved me. I do. But you’re in there. You’re in there. You’re doing it in there. Only you can fix that. Okay? And so basically you learn that this evolution is about being able to see what’s going on in there and not puke, right? I’m serious. People get, they don’t want to look. It’s a mess in there. Get that straight, you know it is. It’s insecure, it’s afraid. It’s embarrassed, it’s needy. Yes or no?
Have I got most of them? I got a few of ’em. Alright. There are a lot of ’em in there, aren’t there? And that’s just the way it is right now. Be happy that you see it. Unless you see it, you can’t deal with it unless you’re willing to accept and honor and respect where your starting place is. Just like gravity. You’re not going to be able to work with it and do what’s necessary to rise above it. And you’re not going to rise above it just because you see it. Let’s get that straight. Oh, now I see. Good congratulations. Now wait till you see what it takes to let go. That stuff’s rooted in you. If you’ve held that in there for a long time, it’s built roots. People ask me, but you’re not teaching spiritual path. What are your techniques? Well, if you don’t understand, you don’t understand.
I just gave you the technique. Let that stuff go. Two things. Here’s your technique. Really, I don’t have 15 steps or 12 to 12 step program. Here’s your first step. Don’t put any more in there. That’s your first step. Go through the day and stuff will happen. That bothers you. Good little stuff. The rain, that’s person in front of you. What somebody said to you, your spouse says things are bad, just hit your stuff, relax, let it go. Trying to make it through the day without suppressing what happened to you. But it didn’t make me feel comfortable. Oh, poor thing. Alright. It’s like, look what we go through. Don’t look at the people who do Olympics for four years. They killed themselves. They just go through such amazing struggle and suffering. People go through wars, look at people who go through so many. I just had a friend, had a baby and she didn’t get to have any what’s call the shots.
And so I Esther, what was it like? I will never go through that again. I hear it’s painful, but they come back for seconds and thirds. Why? Because they want the end result. If you want out, if you don’t want it to be like that in there, you got to be willing to go through the day without putting more stuff in there. And when you do that, that’s the first thing. Don’t put more in there. It’s a game. Most of your things that you put in are tiny little stupid things that you just stored the driver in front of you then uses blinkers or is driving below speed limit or the light turn red when you didn’t want it to. It’s just like these tiny stupid little things. You want to go camping and you see a cloud in the sky the night before. God, I hope it doesn’t.
Right? Complaining, complain, complain, complain, complain. Worry complain. Judge, stop it. Let it go. Work on letting it go. Work on letting it go. It’s not worth putting more stuff in there. So that’s number one. Number two, when the old stuff starts coming back up and it will, I told you it’s a life of stack last in first out, the last thing you push down there, that’s what you’re going to think about. The last thing you push down there, when you stop pushing things down there, the old stuff’s going to come up. Wonderful. So stop putting new stuff down there and when the old stuff comes up, want it to not tolerate it, want it to. Same reason you want to have that baby. Same reason you work to win the gold medal. Why do you win a gold medal? I’m talking about feeling ecstasy every moment of your life.
We’re talking about killing yourself to get something and more than a baby. There’s nothing wrong with having a baby, but boy, I want soul birth. You would just catch on. Am I willing to go through this? That’s the second one. When it starts coming up, what the stuff you stored down there from before, it’s got pain in it. You know it does. That’s what you keep pushing it back down. Eventually you’ll get centered enough and strong enough and committed enough. That’s where your meditation and your mantras and all kinds of techniques come in to get you centered enough to say, bring it on. Bring it on. I don’t want this in me, period. I don’t want this in me. I want to live a life of love, of joy, of service. And I can’t do that when I’m complaining all the time and struggling with everything.
And the reason I’m complaining is struggling is have this garbage inside. Of course, if I eat food that made me sick as a dog, I’m going to complain. If I shove all this garbage down there for my entire life and keep it down there, I am going to complain about everything not the way I want. Okay? So I come full circle around from the beginning of the talk. You’re only okay if what you’re getting matches your stuff, okay? I want you to be okay all the time under any condition other what’s happening. It doesn’t mean that somebody dies and you love them, that you don’t feel pain. That’s a beautiful pain. It’s like saying, I love you. It’s part of a relationship, isn’t it? It’s part of me connected with somebody. But you can handle it. You find it. It’s beautiful. It’s a beautiful pain.
The sorrow of missing somebody, of feeling that loss and it lasts a period of time and it goes through because you let it. You didn’t suppress it. Learn to live your life. Be open, let go as stuff naturally passes through. Feel what you need to feel. Think what you need to think. Just don’t hold on. Don’t judge it. Just let it come and pass and the stuff will start cleansing very rapidly. It’s amazing when by itself, it just driving down the road and all of a sudden feels sad or feel something that happened 30 years ago. It’ll start coming up. Welcome it. Ultimately, that’s where I’ve gotten to teach, right? It’s not tolerated, it’s not. Go bear it. Cope with it. No, you welcome it. Throw it a party when it’s coming up. I don’t want you in there. I told you last time, you’ll reach a point where you apologize to it for having shoved it down there.
It’s not his fault. The event happened, came in, caused an emotion and you couldn’t handle it. So you shoved it down there for years and years. Well, of course it’s messed up. You shoved it into a closet as it comes up, you stay centered. You welcome it up, you apologize and you do what you can to help it release. And where do you see what happens? Your growth will be so fast. If you can do that. Alright, don’t complain. Enjoy your life. This work is so much fun. They what an exciting game to liberate your soul. Ative.
